Training teachers
As a REAP Literacy Leader, Lisa trains Georgia public school teachers to become more effective reading teachers with the skills to turn struggling readers into strong readers. Part 1 of the work is delivering Structured Literacy content that is firmly rooted in reading science. Part 2 of the work is equally critical; Lisa works with teachers to consistently implement the content in their classrooms by modeling lessons, observing teachers' implementation, coaching them, and helping them plan and create materials to be successful. |

About Lisa
I taught first grade for 11 years. I knew that I was a good teacher; I loved my kids, worked hard, was creative, and tried to meet the needs of all of my students. Yet somehow I still felt as if I couldn't truly help my struggling readers. No one had ever taught me how to actually teach kids how to read! My professors said, "Surround them with books and read to them and they will become great readers!"
I was frustrated so I started researching Structured Literacy. I went for training and finally felt like I'd been given the tools and was actually capable of teaching students how to read. I became involved with REAP because I wanted to empower public school teachers the way I had been empowered through the training.
Since then I've worked with hundreds of teachers who were frustrated like I had been. Through REAP's Structured Literacy training programs, those teachers are now confident and excited about teaching students to read!

Help REAP keep making a difference
You've heard the pleas from other nonprofit organizations. The continued impact of COVID-19 has been devastating.
1. REAP has incurred significant expense as we transition to virtual training.
2. Program revenue is down because schools are closed and budgets are dwindling.
3. Donations and grants are drying up.
For REAP the stakes are much higher because all of this is happening while thousands of struggling readers in Georgia are falling further and further behind.
Your donation can help keep us going
We need your help to continue our critical work at a time when struggling readers need great reading teachers more than ever. We're planning ways to help teachers address the lost months of learning and boost the reading skills of children who have been hardest hit by school closures.
If youโre able, please consider donating to REAP!
