Students need great reading teachers
now more than ever
Kids have missed months of classroom instruction and are now facing the likelihood of continued online learning. Experts predict that many students have suffered a slide in their reading abilities, and struggling readers have likely dropped even further behind their peers. As schools scramble to figure out how to keep kids learning, the quality of reading instruction is especially critical.
REAP keeps on training
Like everyone else, REAP is learning to make lemonade out of lemons. And so far, our lemonade has been pretty good! We're excited to say that we're training two new cohorts of 44 teachers via virtual learning. They're taking REAP's basic 10-day course in Structured Literacy, which will prepare them to build stronger readers and boost struggling readers. Since we're unable to work in the school buildings, we're supplementing the online sessions with additional video resources and we're planning to do hands-on work as soon as it's appropriate. We're very glad that we can keep providing the training that teachers need so badly to help get their readers on track.
Closing in on a milestone: 1,000 teachers
Since REAP was founded in 2013, we've trained hundreds of teachers whose skills have benefited many thousands of public school readers. With this current cohort of teachers, we're poised to achieve a major milestone of 1,000 teachers trained. |

Sneak Peek
coming soon from REAP...
If you thought the REAP team was taking a break...well, we wish that were true. The truth is that we've been busy brainstorming new ways to help support teachers and struggling readers in this unprecedented educational environment.
Planning a new literacy program
for the Boyce Ansley School
REAP's Director of Education, Carla Stanford, is ironing out details of a plan to launch a new literacy program with our friends at the Boyce L. Ansley School. Boyce Ansley is a tuition-free private school for children of families who have experienced homelessness in Atlanta. REAP's Stephanie Moss enjoyed working with Boyce Ansley teachers and scholars last year, and we look forward to sharing the details of this exciting new project when the school year gets underway.
Phonics-based instructional videos
for virtual learning
We've seen a big demand from teachers and parents searching for high-quality structured literacy lessons geared towards online learning. REAP's literacy experts are busy creating a series of phonics-based instructional videos for K, 1, and 2. The videos will feature lessons suitable for any teacher or parent to use.
Stay tuned for details! |

REAP’s work is more important than ever. We need your help to continue working with teachers to help them repair the COVID/summer reading slide of their most at-risk students. Our efforts to keep moving during this crisis have been rewarding but costly. REAP is facing serious financial consequences at a time when teachers and kids need us most.
Help us fund teacher training to get readers back on track
We know times are tough. If you’re able, please consider donating to REAP so we can keep training teachers to help readers get back on track. They have a lot of catching up to do and EVERY child deserves to be able to read and have a bright future !
